Pickr joins the Tech Talent Charter
Diversity drives innovation and yet, only 17% of UK tech jobs are held by women, stifling the potential of the nation’s technology businesses.
As a tech start-up, the makeup of our team reflects the national imbalance and that’s why we’ve signed up to the Tech Talent Charter.
The Tech Talent Charter (TTC) is a non-profit organisation that was created to address inequality in the sector. As a signatory, we pledge to;
● Support attraction, recruitment and retention practices that are designed to increase the diversity of our workforce
● Define a timetable for change and implement strategy that is right for our organisation.
● Measure the diversity profile of our employees and to share this data for the TTC’s collective publication.
One of the biggest challenges we face, particularly as a regional business outside of London, is a lack of diverse applicants. We recognise for that to change happen, we need to encourage the next generation to pursue rewarding careers in the sector.
We use our platform to promote diversity in the sector, hosting events and partnering with other initiatives that support women and other under-represented groups get into tech. This work has seen us named a finalist in Rising Stars and Microsoft Diversity and Inclusion Award. Signing the TTC was a celebration of this recognition and a commitment to continue to take positive action to address the gender imbalance in our sector.
“It’s vital for the industry to come together as a whole to do more to show females that a career in technology is incredibly rewarding, to increase the number of females working within the industry, to attract people who are considering a career change, and to encourage younger generations to consider these careers from the word go.” TTC CEO Debbie Forster
The people who build our technology should represent the people who use it. We look forward to getting more involved with the TTC and joining forces with British businesses to transform the makeup of the technology sector.
